在獨立學習方面，英國學生要高於我國學生。英國的每個中學生都能夠去圖書館查閱文獻，尋找自己需要的信息來完成一個比較正規的Project。Project的漢語意思是「計劃 」、「設計」、「規化」。實際上類似我國的「科研論文」。英國中學生的Project完全從學生的興趣和社會實際出發，題材極為廣泛。從理化生實驗、數學建模到英國的歷史、地理；從環境保護到關愛生命；從反恐到世界和平；從政治到經濟……，應有盡有。有些Project有理有據，不亞於我國大學生的畢業論文。

英國學生的獨立生活能力也強於我國學生。不分擔家務勞動的學生很少見，他們從小就幫助父母擦汽車、剪草坪。小學生打工的也很多，送報紙是最常見的了，錢雖然掙得不是很多，卻擁有了面對社會、獨立處理問題的機會。到了假期，加油站、快餐店、超市，到處都有中學生在忙著幹活。一個假期下來，不但能掙幾百英鎊，更重要的是他們變得自信、老練。

英國學生的團隊意識強。在英國，人們普遍推崇團隊精神。團隊精神是指一個人與大家協同工作的能力或態度，也就是我們所說的合作能力。英國學校歷來都很重視對學生進行「團隊精神」教育，在公共場所或集體活動中，個人必須服從大家。如果哪個學生為了自己出風頭而連累了大家，他就會被一致斥為「沒有團隊精神」。

英國學生的身體素質好。體育不但是英國中學的重要課程，而且每天下午四點鍾開始，大部分學生又都出現在運動場上。大量的體育鍛煉，加上合理的充足營養，使英國學生大都身強力壯、精力充沛。那種肌肉發達、動作靈活的運動員型學生到處可見。就連女生對體育也十分熱衷。體育好、學習好的學生才備受同學們的推崇。

英國學生的探究精神強。英國學生做事十分開放，敢想敢幹，不受條條框框的束縛，他們認為「只要不被禁止，就可以做」。所以，成功的機會也相對較多。每個學生都有自己的思想和行動。他們不迷信課本、不迷信權威，也不像我國學生那麼關注問題的答案、關注他人的看法。對問題不但有自己的見解，而且特別注重科學論證。注重在探究中尋找答案。
