Lemon tree最早由彼得、保罗与玛丽乐队所唱，从而为世人所熟知。
有些人唱歌是为了赚钱，有些人屹立歌坛，却是为了一份执着的理想，希望透过自己的歌声，传递他们心目中的真理。正是因为有了这些不把商业目的作为创作动机的音乐人，我才坚信音乐改变世界，而他们之中的一份子就是今天要介绍的彼得、保罗和玛丽三重唱。
在美国的现代民歌史上，曾经有许多著名的艺人与团体，都是以鲜明的政治色彩而著名，包括Bob Dylan 和Joan Baez以及 彼得保罗和玛丽三重唱，等等，都是最标准的例证。他们透过歌唱与实际的行动，宣扬反战的理念，即使备受争议，甚至遭到逮捕，也在所不惜。
事隔多年之后，当年的民谣大师们都已经不再年轻， Bob Dylan与Joan Baez也不再像过去那样热衷于表达思想，可是，早已当爷爷，奶奶的Peter, Paul & Mary却依然不改初衷，仍然非常积极的继续宣扬他们的理念，而且不但唱给昔日的歌迷与群众听，还透过活泼可爱的包装，把是非对错的观念传递给新生代的儿童，堪称非常少见的特例。
彼得保罗和玛丽三重唱曾经在90年代为公共电视网举办过一场亲子演唱会的特别节目，许多当年听着他们歌曲长大的人，都带着自己的孩子，三代同堂地前去观赏。节目一开头，他们就唱出脍炙人口的Puff, the Magic Dragon，以及一系列幽默，风趣的歌曲，然后不着痕迹的带来他们的经典曲目，教孩子们一起来鼓起勇气去改变这个世界所有的不平。
1961年成立于纽约的民谣三重唱彼得、保罗与玛丽由两男和一女所组成，在六○年代拥有多首畅销曲；吉他伴奏清新的曲风加上优美的和声使他们在台湾也有极高知名度。他们在六○年代初期吹起一股民谣复兴风，试图重振民谣音乐的黄金时期，尤其此时英国的披头士旋风尚未刮到美国，在猫王的摇滚乐与披头四夹缝中，民谣的确又流行了一段时间，鲍布．狄伦和彼得、保罗与玛丽都在这波浪潮中占有重要地位。
其实，我们从台湾以前的老式情歌选辑中就常可看到彼得、保罗与玛丽的许多歌曲 柠檬树 、离家500哩 都是其中大家最耳熟能详的歌曲。
彼得、保罗与玛丽三重唱2005年最新出版的精选辑一共有25首歌，都是不可或缺的名作。他们也唱了鲍布．狄伦的作品 Blowin' In The Wind ；而在他们所有单曲中仅有一首冠军曲，那就是约翰.丹佛所写的 Leaving On A Jet Plane ，这支单曲在1969年12月20日得到冠军后彼得、保罗与玛丽三重唱就无单曲再进榜，演唱组在1971年解散。解散后的三位团员各自发展，不过成就都比不上三重唱时代。
1962年彼得、保罗与玛丽首张同名专辑曾被评选为发烧片，纯净的歌声与和声的层次感加上简单的木吉他伴奏曾让发烧友们趋之若鹜，多年之后从他们的精选集中仍可以再度回味那时代单纯却净化心灵的民谣。判断音乐的好坏，相信每个人都有自己的标准，有些人选择一个偶像来支持，有些人选择潮流去追逐，但是我坚信，优秀的音乐家应该像所有的有责任感的艺术家一样拥有卓尔不群的艺术才华，并能忠实的坚守音乐的良心，不为名利，只为责任……

《柠檬树》，原名《Lemon Tree》，这首歌曲由Fool's Garden(愚人花园)于1996年首唱。这首歌在英国排行榜的最高记录是第26名，而在德国排名榜有几周的第1名都是《Lemon Tree》。

然而也正是《Lemon Tree》所创造的辉煌高度将Fool's Garden推入了“One Hit Wonder”的尴尬境地，他们之后的音乐再也没能超越《Lemon Tree》，乐队也渐渐的无人问津了。
