这个词是现在流行的说法，根据我的理解有两种：

第一种，就是指现场版，如XX歌的剧场版，应该翻译为： live version,

第二种：指枪版,这时应该是：camcorder-shot version或简称shot version.其中shot的意思是：摄影（名词）。这个字最早应该是意译的，不过汉语博大精深，翻译得不露行迹罢了。

第三种：有没有theatre version这种说法呢？还是有的。theatre version一般用在说“XX小说或其他非戏剧的东西拍成的电影”，比如：
a theatre version of Dickens' "Oliver Twist": 迪更斯的《雾都孤儿》拍成的电影
