一、概述
計算機網路是指自主的計算機互聯而成能完成信息共享的系統。
計算機網路是計算機和通信技術相結合的必然產物，它對計算機系統的組織和工作方式產生了深遠的影響。脫離了網路的計算機已經不是一台完整的計算機了，難怪Sun公司提出「網路就是計算機」。

根據網路覆蓋范圍的大小，把網路分成區域網（LAN，Local Area Network）、城域網（MAN，Metropolitan Area Network）和廣域網（WAN，Wide Area Network）。
校園網（Campus Network）介於區域網和城域網之間，一般覆蓋幾公里的范圍。

校園網系統=布線系統+網路設備+計算機硬體設備+系統軟體+應用軟體網路系統的目的是信息共享。根據功能的不同可以將網路系統分成兩個部分：信息傳輸部分，負責信息在不同系統間的傳輸；信息處理部分，負責信息的存儲和處理。其中傳輸部分包含布線系統和網路設備兩個子系統。處理部分包含計算機硬體設備、系統軟體和應用軟體三個子系統。

布線系統主要是校園網中設備之間的各種連接介質，負責各個設備之間的信息傳輸。網路設備負責計算機系統之間的信息交換，計算機硬體設備，在相關的系統軟體和應用軟體控制下，負責信息的存儲和處理。
