Clouds are made of millions of very small drops of water. The drops move around all the time. When they hit each other, they join up. This is how they grow larger and heavier. When they are too heavy to stay in the air, they fall down as rain.
If it is very cold, the very small drops of water changes into ice. The piece of ice freeze together. When they get too heavy, they fall down as snow.
There are many different kinds of clouds. And they are different in shape. The thunderclouds are big and dark. Some clouds are like small white balls of cotton.

Singapore may be small, but packs in quite a punch. Only about 655 square kilometers in area, it is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with about 6430 people per square kilometer. Although it is one of the 20 smallest countries in the world, its economy is a world leader, and has the world's busiest port in terms of tonnage handled.
Today the financial and technological hub of South East Asia, Singapore was once a sleepy Malay fishing village, which came into its own as a British trading colony in the 1800's. The population is a mix of Malays, Chinese and Indians with a smattering of other ethnic nationalities. There are four official languages in Singapore - Mandarin, Tamil, Malay and English. The Chinese ethnic population is originally from South-east China from the provinces of Fukian and Guangdong. Immigrants from the Malaysian peninsula, Sumatra, Java and other islands of the Malay Archipelago have thronged the state. About two-thirds of the Indians are Tamil, with a smattering of Malayalis, Punjabis and Gujratis.
Singapore consists of one main island, and 58 smaller ones. The terrain is flat lowland, the highest point being Bukit Tima Hills, standing at 164 meters. Its climate is hot (ranging between 22 and 30 degrees centigrade) and muggy (humidity remains at 75%). The rainy season is from November to January, although being near the equator, intermittent rains occur throughout the year.
Although about 50% of the land is occupied by vertical urban settlements in modern skyscrapers, Singapore has a thriving agricultural economy specializing in rubber, copra, fruit, orchids, vegetables, poultry, eggs and fish. It is the world's largest exporter of ornamental fish. It has thriving instries of electronics, chemicals, financial services, oil drilling equipment, rubber processing, food processing, ship repair and other instries, with the economy heavily dependant on its electronics and manufacturing exports.
With typical Singapore control and determination, the government has made up for its lack of natural flora and fauna by building gardens and zoos, waterfalls and underwater parks. Singapore has one of the best zoos in the world, and has the world's highest man made waterfall in Jurong Park, standing at 30 meters. The Bird sanctuary in Jurong even has simulated tropical thunderstorms。

LOOK CAREFULY AND LEARN
My friend Pail will never forget his first chemistry teacher .He was a little man with thick glasses lively and interesting. And his lessons were not easily forggeten.
Paul remember one of his first lessons from this teacher. After the students in the chemistry lab, the teacher brought out three bottles. One was filled with petrol, one with castor and oue with vinegar."Now wathch carefully," said the teacher .
He then filled a cup with some of the petrol, some of the vinegar. As the students watched him quietly,he mixed the three together. After that,he held up one of his fingers and showed it to the class. He then dipped it into the cup .After a few seconds he took his finger out ."Now watch,"he said."remember ,you must do everythjing as i do ."
He put a finger in his mouth, tasted it and smiled, looking rather pleased. Then he handed the cup around the class of studentds .Each student dipped a finger into the mixture and sucked it .Instead of smiling ,each of them made a face .The mixture tasted terrible.
When the cup was at last returned to the teacher ,he said sadly,"I'm sorry, none of you watched carefully enough .Yes,I sucked a finger ,but the finger I put into my mouth was not the one I had dipped into the cup .
It was Paul's first important lesson as a student of chemistry and he never forgot it ."

THE LOST BOOKS
My grandma is already eighty years old. She used to be a history teacher. Her hobby is to read. She likes reading on many different subjects. She often borrows books from the school library. She has also bought a lot of books. She often says, “I love books. Books are my best friends. They give me knowledge and make me happy.”
Grandma likes to borrow books from the library and reads outside in the schoolyard. Sometimes she reads a few lines, puts down the book, walks a few steps and thinks for a while and then walks away with the book. But last week Grandma forgot to take the book when she left for home. She was worried and asked her friends, “Have you seen a history book? I think I've lost it.”
The next day she went to the librarian and said to her, “I’m very sorry. I borrowed a history book from the library last week. But I can’t find it. I think I’ve lost it.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll find it,” said the librarian.
Several days later Grandma came to the library to borrow some more books. The librarian asked her, “Have you found the book?” “Not yet. I’ve looked for it everywhere, but I still can’t find it.”
“Don’t worry. Someone will probably find it and return it sooner or later.” A few days later, the book was still missing. What was worse, Grandma lost more books. She was worried and so was the librarian. “I’m afraid I’ll have to pay for the lost books,” said Grandma sadly.
One day the librarian came up with an idea. She asked Grandma to put a bookmark in each of the borrowed books with the words: “If you find this book, please return it to the school library. ...” Grandma thought it was a wonderful idea. Now her lost books are usually returned
to the library.

It was not until 1960 that three Chinese climbers first succeeded in standing on the top of Qomolangma by climbing the north face of the mountain.
For over two months they made their way up the mountain. They faced the cold weather and strong winds with snow.Tents, sleeping bags, food—everything they used had to be carried.
The temperature dropped to 40 degrees below zero. Still they struggled on, and climbed steep ice walls smooth as glass.
The lack of oxygen made their breathing painful, as if they had run for miles. Each step required great efforts of body and mind.
