英语素质教育
一、素质教育的概念
素质教育中的“素质”是指人的先天“生理”素质和后天形成的“心理”素质与“社会”素质。其中，先天的素质是内部基础，是条件，真正决定人的发展和成就的是后天接受的教育和主观的努力。所谓素质教育就是全面提高和发展人的教育。具体地说，是通过科学的教育途径，充分发挥人的天赋条件，提高人的各种素质水平，使其得到全面和谐发展的教育。
二、素质教育的内容
素质教育所包含的内容很广，主要有身体素质教育、思想品德素质教育、文化科学素质教育、心理素质教育、审美素质教育、技能素质教育和社会交往素质教育七方面。可以这样理解：（1）素质教育是面向全体受教育者，使每一个学生都尽可能获得发展，而不是片面追求升学率，仅仅面向少数英才。（2）素质教育是使每一个受教育者都能在德、智、体、美、劳诸方面得到发展，而不仅仅是某一方面突出，其他方面瘸腿。（3）素质教育是使学生在受教育过程中以主人翁的态度积极主动地参与教育活动。
三、怎样在英语课堂教学中充分体现素质教育
在我国，长期以来在英语教学中占主导地位的是以语法为纲，课堂上教师讲学生听、课后学生背这样一种传统模式。过多烦琐的语法讲解和操练在一定程度上影响了我国英语教学质量的提高，所培养出来的基本上是知识型、应试型的人才。教师花费大量的时间讲授、学生背诵大量的语法规则，到头来还是开不了口，讲不出一句地道的英语。英语学习应该是学中用、用中学。教师的任务是不仅要培养学生为交际运用语言的能力，还要做到传授语言知识和培养言语交际能力的有机结合。在英语教学实践中，我深深感到从传统“应试”教育转向现代“素质”教育的必要性。那么怎样在英语课堂教学中体现素质教育呢？我认为应该做到以下几点：
1. 贯彻素质教育的主体性原则，努力激发学生的求知欲和学习兴趣，把被动接受的“要我学”转化为主动进取的“我要学”，这样来培养学生的学习动机和责任感
同时，教师要鼓励学生独立的探索精神。在课堂教学中，我常通过创设愉快的课堂教学情境来开发学生的智力和潜能。例如在教学了can，must的用法后，我立即在会话中训练，问一个学生：“May I use your pen？”学生答：“Yes，you may.”然后钢笔递给我。接着又向他借尺子、橡皮、小刀，他的回答是相同的，而且越答越快。在这当中，我突然问：“May I use your head？”他也脱口而出：“Yes，you may.”课堂里随即爆发出一阵哄笑，他自己也笑了，并马上纠正说：“Sorry，you mustn’t.”我接着向全班提问：“May I go now？”一名学生答：“N o，you mustn’t.”我接着问：“Why？”他想了想说：“We are having a class.”下课铃响后，我又问：“May I go now？”学生回答：“Yes，you may. Because the class is over now.”此时此刻，师生虽然是在练习，但学生似乎并没意识到，而是沉浸在语言交际中，兴趣很浓，学习效果大大提高。这样，学生学的知识立刻就能用上，能听能说，兴趣倍增，学习无疑是事半功倍的。
当然平时适当的运用实物、简笔画、编歌曲、编顺口溜及使用多媒体设备也能使教学过程更加生动、直观，使学生更快地进入角色，但要忌过量，不要为了使用教具而使用教具，避免哗众取宠。否则，不仅失去了科学性，教学效果也不会很理想。
2. 重视情感、认知和智力目标的全面发展
它包括两个方面：（1）形成和谐的教学氛围，指师生之间、同学之间、教学要求与学生实际水平之间的和谐。（2）从学生特点和实际水平出发调整教学内容和方式，增强学生自信心，为他们创造成功的机会，并帮助他们一步步获得成功。学习成败的关键因素是情感因素。课堂上教师传授知识、进行技能训练时，总是伴随着一种影响学生情绪的情感交流。好的情绪转移到学习中就会变成一种兴趣和动力。在课堂教学中，我感到一名教师富有真诚的表情和饱满的热情比严肃的说教更有效，更能征服学生的心。有时候，教师一个嘉许的眼神、一丝微笑、一个点头、一句赞扬对学生都将产生意想不到的积极效果。如有同学读错了一个音，说错了一个句子，不要忙着去纠正它，因为我们的第一目标是让学生能够大胆地毫无顾忌地表达。对于学习上有困难的学生，要给他们更多的耐心和爱心，要承认能力有差异，不断地给予鼓励，使其受到吸引，主动自觉地来学。及时表扬和奖励学生的一点一滴的进步，能使其因成功而感受到学习的乐趣。学生对话时，应以友好的姿态做协助者，打消其顾虑，多鼓励，不训斥，帮助他们把对话做完整。最初的时候，只要学生能完成就表扬，然后再要求精益求精。
3. 引导学生掌握学习方法，使学生学会学习、善于学习
我通常采用自学——释疑——精讲——归纳——练习五步法来培养学生的自学能力。例如教学八年级上第五单元短文时，讲解前，我先让学生自己看书（当然是带着问题），由于课前看了书，浅显的问题学生都能回答。接着，我把主要内容展示出来以加深印象。学生没想到的，我做补充；学生看书时没看懂的，我可以精讲。然后，我与学生一起归纳总结，再让他们练习。这种方法比学生被动地坐着听效果好。虽然花的时间多一点，但由于学生开动脑筋思考问题，所以印象深，学得活、记得牢。
当然，教师自身素质的好坏是决定英语课堂教学成败的关键。因此，加快教师队伍建设，提高教师素质是目前刻不容缓的一件大事。
