①問路時應首先說一聲：「Excuse me.」這樣可以引起對方的注意，又不失禮貌。

One-way street 就是單行道. 尤其在 Downtown 地區, 以亞特蘭大和紐奧良為例, 其復雜的程度可以用進的去, 出不來來形容, 實在不是個愉快的開車經驗.
2. You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light.

有一次我開車老美坐我旁邊, 他幫我指路就是這么說的. Stay for a while 通常指五到十分鍾的時間, 不會太久. 遇見某樣東西, 可以用 hit 這個字, 如 hit the traffic light, hit the stop sign 等等. 而 traffic light 也有人說成 light, 或 stoplight.
3. Then take a left. 向左轉.
向左轉可以說成 turn left, take a left 或是 Make a left. 有時光講 take a left 不明確, 你可以加上路名, 明確地告訴人家要轉哪一條路, 例如 Take a left into Hemphill Ave. 或是 Take a left onto Hemphill Ave.
4. It will be Hemphill Ave. It』s two-lane traffic. 那就會是 Hemphill Ave, 它是一條雙線道.
指路的時候如果能夠說出街道名稱是最好, 所以通常我會把轉到哪一條路的路名也指出來. 至於是幾線道一般指路的時候則比較不會提及. 雙線道是指來去各一個車道共二線道而言, 四線道就是 four-lane traffic. 像亞特蘭大的 Interstate Highway 有些地方都是十二線道, 那就是 twelve-lane traffice 夠驚人吧.
5. Come down Hemphill Ave about five blocks. 由 Hemphill 街往下走約五個 blocks.
英文這個部份跟中文有異曲同工之妙喔. 我們會習慣地說, 往 \\"下\\" 走, 英文也會說come \\"down\\" 或是 get \\"down\\", 這里如果只說 Come Hemphill Ave. 聽來是不是怪怪的? 至於 block 指的是一塊一塊的建築, 外國人在指路時很喜歡用 block 作為計量的單位.
6. You will see a BP gas station on your left. 在你的左手邊你會看到一座 BP 加油站.
指路的時候除了路名之外, 明顯的地標也是有幫助的. 通常你可以指出一些明顯的建築物或是加油站來幫助對方. 加油站的英文是 gas station, 有時會簡稱 station.
7. Keep going 50 yards before you come to a fork road. 繼續走 50 碼, 直到你走到一個三叉路口.
繼續往下走可以用 keep going 這個字, 或是 continue straight 或是 keep straight 也很常用. Fork road 就是我們說的三叉路口. 那如果是丁字路口要怎麼說? 你可以說, This road will dead end into 10th Street. 就可以表達出丁字路口的意思了.
8. Make a right, pass two stop signs and you will run into a Wal Mart. 向右轉, 經過二個 Stop sign, 你就會遇到 Wal Mart.
有一次我去 Ohio, 由於事先的准備不夠, 以致於從頭迷路到最後. 有一次有一個老黑跟我報路用的就是 You』ll run into it! 意思就是, 我會遇到的. 他們也喜歡這么說, You can』t miss it! 就是說, 你絕不會錯過的.
