1、不拘泥於形式,展現個人特色
相比之下,英文簡歷不像中文簡歷有固定的形式和格式,因而更加能體現各個求職者不同的特色。在製作英文簡歷的過程中,求職者可以根據自身的特色以及目標工作的特性,進行創造性製作,把自己的優勢凸顯呈現給HR。在內容方面,不一定要按照中文簡歷的格式,寫出「skill」以及「honor」等小分類,而可以整合成「summary」,從而讓整份簡歷更加精簡。

英語簡歷並無固定不變的單一形式,應聘者完全可以根據個人的具體情況來確定採用何種形式,靈活設計。一般來說,根據個人經歷的不同側重點,可以選用以下三種形式:
(1)以學歷為主的簡歷 basic resume 這種形式適應於應屆畢業生或中學畢業後仍在待業的求職人員,因為沒有工作經歷,所以把重點放在學業上,從最高學歷往下寫。
在basic resume中,一般包括下列元素:
a. personal date(個人資料):name(姓名)、address(通訊地址)、postal code(郵政編碼)、phone number(電話號碼)、birthdate(出生日期)、birthplace(出生地點)、sex(性別)、height(身高)、weight(體重)、health(健康狀況)、date of availability(可到職日期)、number of identification card(身份證號碼)。因為是應屆畢業生或中學畢業不久,一般沒有結婚,因而可省略marital status(婚姻狀況)和children(兒女情況)兩項。當然,如果是研究生畢業已婚,則應寫明。
b. job/career objective(應聘職位)。
c. ecation(學歷):就讀學校及系科的名稱、學位、始止時間和應聘職位相關的課程與成績、社會實踐、課外活動、獎勵等都應一一列出。
d. special skill(特別技能)。
e. hobbies/interests(業余愛好)。如果在學歷項目的課外活動中已經註明,此項則不必重復。
(2)以經歷為主的簡歷 chronological resume
以這種形式出現的英語簡歷,往往側重於工作經歷,把同應聘職位有關的經歷和業績按時間順序書寫出來,把工作經歷放在學歷之前。經歷和學歷的時間順序均是由近至遠。
毫無疑問,這種形式的英語簡歷適合於有工作經驗的求職人員。
在chronological resume中,通常包括以下元素:
a. personal date(個人資料)。具體內容同以學歷為主的簡歷相同,不過,因為你參加工作多年,已進入結婚年齡,所以不管你是否結婚,都應註明婚姻狀況和兒女情況。
b. job/career objective(應聘職位)。
c. work experience(工作經歷)。務必寫明自己在每個工作單位的職位、職責和業績以及工作起止時間。
d. ecation(學歷):因為你已工作多年,僱主重點考慮你的工作經驗是否能勝任你所應聘的職位,所以學歷只是一個參考的因素,因而不必象以學歷為主的簡歷那樣寫得詳細,只需註明你就讀的校系名稱、始止時間和學位即可。
e. technical qualifications and special skills(技術資格和特別技能)。

這種形式的英語簡歷,也是突出工作經歷,因而所含元素和以經歷為主的簡歷相同。以經歷為主的簡歷和以職能為主的簡歷的根本差別在於:以經歷為主的簡歷是按時間順序來排列工作經歷,而以職能為主的簡歷則按工作職能或性質來概括工作經歷,並無時間上的連貫性,旨在強調某些特定的工作能力和適應程度。比方說,你曾經在兩個不同的工作單位擔任相同的職務或負責相同的業務,便可歸納在一個項目之中。
