英語素質教育
一、素質教育的概念
素質教育中的「素質」是指人的先天「生理」素質和後天形成的「心理」素質與「社會」素質。其中，先天的素質是內部基礎，是條件，真正決定人的發展和成就的是後天接受的教育和主觀的努力。所謂素質教育就是全面提高和發展人的教育。具體地說，是通過科學的教育途徑，充分發揮人的天賦條件，提高人的各種素質水平，使其得到全面和諧發展的教育。
二、素質教育的內容
素質教育所包含的內容很廣，主要有身體素質教育、思想品德素質教育、文化科學素質教育、心理素質教育、審美素質教育、技能素質教育和社會交往素質教育七方面。可以這樣理解：（1）素質教育是面向全體受教育者，使每一個學生都盡可能獲得發展，而不是片面追求升學率，僅僅面向少數英才。（2）素質教育是使每一個受教育者都能在德、智、體、美、勞諸方面得到發展，而不僅僅是某一方面突出，其他方面瘸腿。（3）素質教育是使學生在受教育過程中以主人翁的態度積極主動地參與教育活動。
三、怎樣在英語課堂教學中充分體現素質教育
在我國，長期以來在英語教學中佔主導地位的是以語法為綱，課堂上教師講學生聽、課後學生背這樣一種傳統模式。過多煩瑣的語法講解和操練在一定程度上影響了我國英語教學質量的提高，所培養出來的基本上是知識型、應試型的人才。教師花費大量的時間講授、學生背誦大量的語法規則，到頭來還是開不了口，講不出一句地道的英語。英語學習應該是學中用、用中學。教師的任務是不僅要培養學生為交際運用語言的能力，還要做到傳授語言知識和培養言語交際能力的有機結合。在英語教學實踐中，我深深感到從傳統「應試」教育轉向現代「素質」教育的必要性。那麼怎樣在英語課堂教學中體現素質教育呢？我認為應該做到以下幾點：
1. 貫徹素質教育的主體性原則，努力激發學生的求知慾和學習興趣，把被動接受的「要我學」轉化為主動進取的「我要學」，這樣來培養學生的學習動機和責任感
同時，教師要鼓勵學生獨立的探索精神。在課堂教學中，我常通過創設愉快的課堂教學情境來開發學生的智力和潛能。例如在教學了can，must的用法後，我立即在會話中訓練，問一個學生：「May I use your pen？」學生答：「Yes，you may.」然後鋼筆遞給我。接著又向他借尺子、橡皮、小刀，他的回答是相同的，而且越答越快。在這當中，我突然問：「May I use your head？」他也脫口而出：「Yes，you may.」課堂里隨即爆發出一陣鬨笑，他自己也笑了，並馬上糾正說：「Sorry，you mustn』t.」我接著向全班提問：「May I go now？」一名學生答：「N o，you mustn』t.」我接著問：「Why？」他想了想說：「We are having a class.」下課鈴響後，我又問：「May I go now？」學生回答：「Yes，you may. Because the class is over now.」此時此刻，師生雖然是在練習，但學生似乎並沒意識到，而是沉浸在語言交際中，興趣很濃，學習效果大大提高。這樣，學生學的知識立刻就能用上，能聽能說，興趣倍增，學習無疑是事半功倍的。
當然平時適當的運用實物、簡筆畫、編歌曲、編順口溜及使用多媒體設備也能使教學過程更加生動、直觀，使學生更快地進入角色，但要忌過量，不要為了使用教具而使用教具，避免嘩眾取寵。否則，不僅失去了科學性，教學效果也不會很理想。
2. 重視情感、認知和智力目標的全面發展
它包括兩個方面：（1）形成和諧的教學氛圍，指師生之間、同學之間、教學要求與學生實際水平之間的和諧。（2）從學生特點和實際水平出發調整教學內容和方式，增強學生自信心，為他們創造成功的機會，並幫助他們一步步獲得成功。學習成敗的關鍵因素是情感因素。課堂上教師傳授知識、進行技能訓練時，總是伴隨著一種影響學生情緒的情感交流。好的情緒轉移到學習中就會變成一種興趣和動力。在課堂教學中，我感到一名教師富有真誠的表情和飽滿的熱情比嚴肅的說教更有效，更能征服學生的心。有時候，教師一個嘉許的眼神、一絲微笑、一個點頭、一句贊揚對學生都將產生意想不到的積極效果。如有同學讀錯了一個音，說錯了一個句子，不要忙著去糾正它，因為我們的第一目標是讓學生能夠大膽地毫無顧忌地表達。對於學習上有困難的學生，要給他們更多的耐心和愛心，要承認能力有差異，不斷地給予鼓勵，使其受到吸引，主動自覺地來學。及時表揚和獎勵學生的一點一滴的進步，能使其因成功而感受到學習的樂趣。學生對話時，應以友好的姿態做協助者，打消其顧慮，多鼓勵，不訓斥，幫助他們把對話做完整。最初的時候，只要學生能完成就表揚，然後再要求精益求精。
3. 引導學生掌握學習方法，使學生學會學習、善於學習
我通常採用自學——釋疑——精講——歸納——練習五步法來培養學生的自學能力。例如教學八年級上第五單元短文時，講解前，我先讓學生自己看書（當然是帶著問題），由於課前看了書，淺顯的問題學生都能回答。接著，我把主要內容展示出來以加深印象。學生沒想到的，我做補充；學生看書時沒看懂的，我可以精講。然後，我與學生一起歸納總結，再讓他們練習。這種方法比學生被動地坐著聽效果好。雖然花的時間多一點，但由於學生開動腦筋思考問題，所以印象深，學得活、記得牢。
當然，教師自身素質的好壞是決定英語課堂教學成敗的關鍵。因此，加快教師隊伍建設，提高教師素質是目前刻不容緩的一件大事。
